Black/doom metal duo, brothers Adam and Matt Ford kick things off with a classical inspired acoustic intro that builds up tension, you cant help but brace yourself waiting for that first power chord to burst, which is followed by a Trivium-esque single note melody.
Vocalist Adams deep haunting choir like vocals and black metal screeches(resemblent of Sodom) compliment his brother Matts Sabbath like doom metal riffs nicely.
Songs like the Torture Garden,Yet Never and S.O.S. keep the doom/black metal ship afloat throughout with some surprises along the way, including a vocal break of purely just screeches reminiscent of someone being tortured on the self-titled track and a vocal trade off between Adams eerie deep singing and operatic vocals from guest singer Lucy Shields, and keyboards provided by Christian Woods.
Things speed up with The Call of Nature and S.O.S. is interspersed with some haunting acoustic parts and some tuneful shredding at the tail end of a very melodic guitar solo.
Like the music or not, the creativity between the two brothers cannot be denied.
Dead Romantic is a unique, chilling blend of black and doom metal that would make any decent christian shit his pants, but will please more broad minded fans and no doubt even claim some purists along the way.(3/5)
fans of: Akercocke, My Dying Bride are sure to enjoy this music by these guys!.
